While it’s sometimes a head-scratching affair, and is quite odd, there’s still something mildly compelling about it

Sometimes there are games that simply leave you wondering, at least for quite a while, what in the world you’re playing. Whether that has to do with the story, the mode of play, or any number of intangibles, while I love to argue about how we need more unique titles, there are sometimes ones that can still be perplexing when you run into them. Hymer 2000 is absolutely in that vein, featuring a mix of some light adventure elements, a bit of mystery, and puzzle-solving that feels very appropriate in this text prompt-driven era we find ourselves in.

Absolutely feeling quite timely, I do wonder when this all began development and where we were down the AI-driven rabbit hole. You’ll interact with Hymer through an old-school terminal-style screen, while managing a few other desktop apps for cross-searching information and doing a little exploration as well. For the most part your goal is simply to read and absorb the information given to you, and then to use what keywords you pick up on to go back and prompt for more information, and so on.

This absolutely feels like an experience driven by the modern age, with an expectation that people will quickly learn how to process information and leverage a small number of apps to dig deeper and deeper to find what you need. I’ll admit that using a controller, rather than a mouse and keyboard, feels less than ideal, but it is still a manageable experience nonetheless. With successes you’ll continue to uncover new pieces of information, whether chat log transcripts or other bits of data, each uncovering just a bit more of the overall picture. While your goal won’t be to uncover some mass conspiracy of shocking levels, you will come to see what is happening and persevere to help shut it all down.
