While you could perhaps get some classic gaming vibes from 7 Horizons there’s just an overall blandness here it can’t shake
This, to me, is one of those games that plays well enough in the moment and does just enough to keep you engaged, but once you stop playing the details tend to quickly escape you. Very much made with a retro feel, but with at least a few elements like being able to aim up or diagonally and checkpoints, which feel more modern, 7 Horizons is by no means a bad game. That said, I wouldn’t think for most it will be terribly memorable either. It feels like a pretty classic and light platform shooter, with you moving through stages trying to collect gems and find a few secrets, but somewhat going through the motions and not breaking any kind of ground at all. One quibble I have is with the price point, which feels a bit unnaturally high and deliberately inflated in order to make its sale price look more appealing. I’m not saying it absolutely isn’t worth the price tag, but a less aggressive price would suit its level of quality better, even if not making for as eye-popping a percent discount when it gets put on sale. There are worse retro experiences out there, for sure, but there are also plenty that are more interesting than this.
