Undoubtedly giving off a feel of earlier days of grand environments, hacking, and slashing, but missing a spark to go next level
Feeling a bit like an updated version of a pretty epic side-scrolling slasher bordering on a Metroidvania from an earlier era, there’s no doubt that this game has classic sensibilities and pretty impressive visuals. Some exploring and fighting your way through enemies will yield new skills and other elements you’ll need to continue forward both in combat and trying to work your way into new areas. Boss battles, appropriately, tend to be pretty intense and will test your skills nicely. All that said, for me there was just something missing to get me truly excited and fully on board. On the whole it feels like a familiar and thus pretty safe experience, not really flexing muscles to break into new territory and do something truly interesting. Genre fans should dig it, but if you’re more of a generalist it’s likely you can find better fare at a comparable price.
