With an old-school look and feel but smarter and more modern controls, Anyaroth offers a distinctive experience
Anyaroth is really quite an odd bird. Visually and in many ways mechanically it feels like a game from an earlier era, as it’s focused on business and trying to make you work to progress with a general flow reminiscent of classic platform shooters but with a modern edge. What helps thoroughly establish this is the control scheme that allows you to pretty effectively aim and shoot as you go, rather than simply having you simply shoot straight ahead in the direction you’ve moving in. Throw in a variety of options with your weapons and upgrades and you get some additional more modern touches that help to elevate this over its forebears. While it isn’t going to likely win any awards for revolutionizing anything, this is a smart game that feels familiar but plays in a way that feels all its own.
