Ashwalkers is an odd one, first and foremost deserving some credit for being distinctive with its narrative-driven approach to survival rather than being action-oriented. While any given playthrough may not be more than a few hours long (assuming you survive that long), if you’re a fan of its style there are plenty of different ways to approach this post-Apocalyptic world and surprises to discover. The problem is that it’s undeniably a bit glitchy too, with numerous visual problems with pop-in, edge artifacts, and other elements that detract from the experience as well as inexplicable slowdown at times given the pretty sedate pacing and relative simplicity of its visuals. If you’re willing to be patient and don’t mind the very text-heavy approach, there’s something unique here to enjoy and be challenged by, but if you were hoping for a more active and action-filled walk through the wasteland you’ll want to look elsewhere.
