Given the lack of more purist racing sims in the eShop, this does manage to reasonably help fill the void, but that isn’t without some big caveats
As I always note when reviewing racing games on the Switch and Switch 2, in my opinion there are simply never enough of them. Since my preferred arcade style of controls and play is the overall direction more developers have opted for, that really does leave racing sim fans in more of a sad situation. That said, even as exciting as it may be to see another entrant in that category on the eShop, you’ll still want to be critical and be sure you won’t be disappointed with your purchase.Assoluto Racing, despite its obvious mobile origins, overall is a reasonably-good time on the Switch, even if it may not feel like it's doing a great job of leveraging what the system has to offer. While it’s great that it has plenty of real-world cars, and in general does manage to impart a very different feel to driving these various vehicles, it also has some real limits. The visuals are a bit washed out overall, and while that doesn’t have to be a big deal I’ll admit that at times it did make following the track in front of me more difficult than it should have been, just because everything in sight being different shades of grey could make it tough to follow. These issues also carry over to the interface for some menus, leading me to not initially understand that some screens could be scrolled to the side because pretty well nothing left that impression in the interface. To a degree the fact that this is tied to a mobile game feels more fair than usual, since the Switch version does give you an initial leg up, but that fact doesn’t make the busy interfaces you’ll need to move through just to enjoy a race any less annoying at times. This doesn’t feel like a pay to play sort of situation, but since solicitations to go that route are still present it’s still not ideal. A bit more irksome is just that perhaps consistent with a mobile game, there’s no getting around a general no-frills feeling to everything. Yes, if you enjoy simmy racing, this may be one of your limited options, but understand that there’s a bit of a cost of time and patience to what you’ll be getting out of it.
