Delivers some challenging Metroidvania play with a distinctive black-and-white retro look and feel
While there are finally a fair number of quality Metroidvania titles on Switch, there’s nothing wrong with having another at a fairly reasonable price to choose from. Going visually in a similar direction as the charming Gato Roboto, Astronite certainly doesn’t bring the same level of cute to the party, but instead cranks up the degree of challenge quite a bit. Unfortunately, one of the first things that happens when you land is you end up losing all of your gear, so the challenge to survive and thrive will involve tracking everything down and showing maximum effort with minimal help. That can make for some frustration, especially in the early going, since you’re not terrible nimble and your firepower is middling at best. It can also, at times, make it a bit tougher to know where to go next since without some key piece of equipment you won’t be able to go everywhere initially. Still, if you’re looking for a reasonably-good and budget-friendly Metroidvania experience this is another solid choice in the Switch eShop.
