While it represents an old-school arcade action feel well enough, it also has some notable shortcomings
Battle Stations Blockade's resemblance to a segment of the Commodore 64 classic Beachhead lured me in with visions of pixelated gunnery bliss. Unfortunately, the reality falls a bit short somewhere along the way. While blasting through waves of enemies with your dual turrets is initially satisfying, the experience quickly devolves into chaotic and ultimately unsatisfying mayhem.Hitting that sweet spot between offense and defense is crucial, but judging your actual health amidst the bullet storm proves to be a challenge. Difficulty swings wildly, from manageable skirmishes to near-impossible swarms that overwhelm your senses. Weapon switching, intended for adaptability, is unfortunately slow and clunky and the more advanced weapon systems rarely feel more effective overall than simply sticking to your reliable base guns.Battle Stations Blockade might pique your desire for basic arcade shooting action, but its all-over-the-place difficulty and ultimately unsatisfying mechanics won't keep you entertained for long. It's a fleeting pixelated thrill that soon becomes an exercise in too much uninspired repetition.
