Multiplayer brawlers, no doubt inspired in part by the tremendous success of Smash Bros, are pretty well a dime a dozen out there including on the Switch, driven mostly by indie offerings both ambitious and humble. Beat Me, though having an interesting look and some stages that offer various obstacles and looks, comes in at the mid-to-low end of the spectrum unfortunately. Aside from a general lack of substance in the number and variety of character choices, each class playing distinctly but lacking in flair, there simply isn’t a whole lot of depth to things. Whether it’s the lack of overall attack options or even the somewhat paltry number of power-ups to be grabbed that results in matches feeling redundant pretty quickly as you settle into which class you prefer. Online play is available but given the somewhat lackluster action I would imagine it will be hard to enjoy this one with anyone who isn’t in the same room as you.
