Colorful, reasonably challenging, and with its own general feel, this budget tower defense title has appeal
When it comes to budget tower defense games the Switch has had quite a few over the years, though they’ve varied quite wildly in quality from great to pretty horrible. Broken Universe falls to the higher end of the bell curve against its peers thankfully, not necessarily reinventing the genre in any way, but distinguishing itself with just enough features and unique touches that it busts through the wall of mediocrity many seem to get stuck on. The environments, monsters, and your units themselves are all quite colorful and well-animated, something you don’t always see at this price range, and the inclusion of boss monsters adds a new wrinkle and additional challenges that are refreshing. Granted, this isn’t necessarily a genre people wait eagerly to see the next big release in, but if you enjoy a solid strategy game at a fair price this is a solid option.
