  • There are bad multiplayer games, terrible multiplayer games… and then there’s Carbage

OK, so when you review as many local multiplayer games as my family and I have, you tend to get a bit jaded after a while. We’ve seen pretty well every possible style of play you can imagine (many of them repeated a ton), every level of polish, and with that in mind it takes quite a bit to surprise us for good or ill. Carbage is a title I laughed almost constantly while playing with my wife, but that’s not a good thing. I just couldn’t quite believe this had been released. It is playable, don’t get me wrong, but it’s just a mess. The camera is often too far pulled out because the arenas are too big to try to show up to 4 people at once. There’s no bot support so you can only play it by forcing those you supposedly love to play with you. There are a number of modes but most of them honestly feel minimally playable and like you don’t need to return to them. Even as bad as it looks, if you hold down the button to boost your speed in certain modes the framerate struggles visibly to keep up. Normally I would try to look for a redemptive thread in games and the audience they may be for whose tastes differ from mine, but not here… it’s simply awful.
