Landing somewhere between Reigns: Kings and Queens and a Choose Your Own Adventure, this has narrative merit
As a child of the 80s I was always a big fan of the Choose Your Own Adventure series. By putting the power to make the crucial decisions that would influence the outcome of the story those books managed to capture the imagination in a unique way and encouraged repeated reading to try out different outcomes. Somewhat on the opposite end of the storytelling spectrum you have the hit mobile game from a few years ago now, Reigns: Kings and Queens. Rather than giving you a few paragraphs or even pages of story to read through before making your next decision it kept things significantly simpler and quick, making for more of a swipe right style of play and storylines that tended to work themselves through pretty quickly. Choice of Life I’d say is smack in the middle between those two, emphasizing an ability to pretty quickly get to your next decision, but generally providing far more nuance and depth by giving you just a little more to work with. If you enjoy working through storylines in multiple ways and then seeing the different directions outcomes can go in this is a pretty solid budget way to do just that.
