An unfortunately spot-on title for this pretty generic and troubled platformer
When we’re over 5 years into the Switch’s lifespan and you load up a game only to find that it doesn’t have Pro Controller support, it’s hard not to feel things are off to a bad start. When it comes to Clunky Hero though, disappointments are a bit par for the course. Lack of proper controller support aside, the game has some obvious performance issues weirdly even when simply showing cutscene video, and for now isn’t even recommended for play in docked mode in general with some apparent concerns with later levels. The sad thing is that even if these stumbles were remedied I don’t think it would move the needle much in terms of how desirable the game is to spend your time and money on. The platforming is generic at best, the combat pretty miserable, and on a general level its attempts at humorous dialogue and situations fall flat. Granted, there’s plenty of room for new Metroidvanias to make a splash on the system, but Clunky Hero doesn’t belong on any short or even pretty long lists of ones that are worth checking out.
