An odd mix of logical challenges and a need for adept reflexes in spots that may struggle to find its ideal audience
Right out of the gate I’ll say that Colored Effects seems like a bit of an odd bird, and that can be a good and a bad thing depending on what you’re looking for in your game. What makes it stand out is that moreso than most of its competition it feels like it is trying to straddle the line between being challenging as a puzzler and sometimes as a platformer as well. You’ll need to carefully consider how best to use the skills and elements available to you to complete each level, and it ramps up in challenge pretty quickly on the thinking side… but you’ll also need to have some decent reflexes (or at least some patience) as well when solving the puzzles asks for a bit of dexterity as well. In theory this is a plus, as it requires flexing some muscle in more than one direction and in areas that aren’t always paired this strongly together. That also could be an issue for some folks who are looking more purely for either side and the need to be good at both may be a challenge. A credit to the developer for being ambitious and making something that will test people more than usual for a puzzler in particular though.
