A new character to fight with, a challenging arcade mode, and some roguelike variability make a solid game better
I always find DLC for games to be a bit of a challenge to very thoroughly review, since ultimately whether you’ll want to get them or not rests first on whether you already have the game and then whether you’re compelled to return to it in the first place. With that out of the way, we’ll go over the details on what this budget-priced pack brings to the table. The first plus is a new giant mech to stomp around with and kick some ass with. It plays a bit differently than the rest, as you’d expect, but is quite effective once you get the hang of it. The other major thing that’s new is an arcade mode which streamlines the action quite a bit and just gets you right into city destruction. While in it you’ll have the choice of more traditional upgrades being made available between stages and a more roguelike roll of the dice option, something I did appreciate. I would have appreciated an option to make the stages themselves a bit more variable like Streets of Rage 4 did, going more fully roguelike, especially since the arcade stages feel a bit stacked against you pretty early on. Still, if you enjoyed Dawn of the Monsters and want a modestly-priced excuse to spend some more time with it this is a solid deal.
