While certainly chill, environmentally conscious, and approachable to all there’s not much excitement to be had here
While eco-friendly games have existed in some form for quite some time, in this generation there seems to have evolved a formal subgenre of sorts, the eco-adventure. With a focus on natural beauty, an appreciation for wildlife, and usually an opportunity to snap some pics at a minimum, it’s a great family-friendly scene. That said, this same chill attitude doesn’t tend to lend itself to much excitement and the risk is a feeling of going through the motions. That’s unfortunately the trap Dolphin Spirit falls into a bit, with some persistent objectives like cleaning up trash and different areas starting to feel like collect-a-thons focused more on just adding content and not necessarily interest or quality. Within games of this kind I suppose it’s at least middle of the road, but there are some others that have either more beauty, variety, or a more meaty story to add some oomph to the experience.
