It’s already getting to be that time of year, so a Metroidvania where you play as a reformed Scrooge is in order
Of all the characters in classical literature I could be playing as in a game I’d have never included Ebenezer Scrooge himself on the list… but here we are. Seemingly on the heels of being shown the light in the need to reform his ways it seems that the ghosts have come to see him as a potential helper in their quest to stop an even greater catastrophe. Putting another aristocrat through the ghosts of the past, present and future treatment has backfired, apparently accelerating their destructive plans, and you’ve been tasked with averting that crisis. For typically being portrayed as older and a bit rickety Scrooge plays as being pretty nimble, able to jump around and mix things up pretty effectively whether fighting humans or spirits. There’s no doubt that the premise is at least novel, and the game’s visuals are generally solid… but I do wish the overall design, combat, and flow showed as much care since they ultimately feel quite generic. There’s some fun to be had here for Metroidvania fans who may want to get into the spirit of the holidays a bit indirectly, but there’s no doubt that among its brethren this just doesn’t feel nearly as much like a classic.
