Reviews:
  • A bit of retro-esque platforming fun with a unique challenge, using your method of shooting downwards as your jump

You have to respect a game that chooses a central limiting mechanic and then stick with it through thick and thin, and that’s what Egglien has done with your downward egg-shooting protagonist. In order to play a platformer you’d normally expect to jump, but in this case it’s the shooting of eggs that will propel you, and do pretty well everything else as well. This is absolutely novel, but that isn’t to say that tying your means for upward propulsion with attacking enemies (quite a few who fire at you as well) is always ideal. On the good side, each level tends to be reasonably short, and when you die (which will happen quite a lot) you’re pretty much dropped right back in the action. On the bad side there can be some real frustrations with trying to both hit enemies to kill them and avoid their fire while you’re rocketing upwards and they go out of view as the screen scrolls. One method to try to deal with this is to feather your firing, a technique you’ll likely need the further you go, but the inherent lack of pinpoint precision when using this method can still make for some aggravation. If you’re down for a game that simply feels different, and will challenge your skills (or perhaps your patience moreso), this will deliver all the above though.
