  • While pretty well every fishing game on Switch has been pretty bad, at least most were playable. This is not

Oh, fishing games on the Switch, why must I continue to hold my head up and think that maybe, finally, this next one will be good… only to get stung every time. Fishing: North Atlantic will have you setting out to catch some future seafood dinners, but good luck even completing the tutorial, and unfortunately I’m not joking. Rather than going for something more sensible like contextual on-screen prompts, you’ll be fed bits of text describing what to do next. The issue is that the directions are often misleading if not a complete disaster. A lack of sufficient detail and follow-up by trying to do something like highlight specifically what piece of equipment to use and where dooms you to literally moving around the deck holding onto things and wondering where the heck you’re supposed to put them or where the lever is that it claims you need to pull. Further, multiple reports from elsewhere in the game that specific gear is unavailable or unusable give me even more pause. Given the pretty low production values and early aggravation with just about all aspects of the game it would take a Herculean effort to try to spend any serious amount of time with this clunky title.
