I’ve played more engaging tech demos than this shovelware nonsense

While I absolutely appreciate earnest efforts on the part of budding developers who may lack the skills or experience to implement their grand visions, there are those on the other end of the spectrum that I find irritating. Rather than embracing the challenge of getting something to market that has some ambition to it, they’re simply looking to release just about anything with the hopes that at a low enough price point, people may just decide to pick it up without knowing much about it. Fly for Fly is absolutely the sort of game designed to prey on unknowing buyers, looking to collect some revenue for very little effort or care for quality.

Your goal in this game is simply to fly around, annoying the students, while then trying to be sure not to get hit by their angry attacks. There’s little to control, little to do, very little nuance, and for the most part it’s a painful slog. You’ll simply try to fly close enough to make their anger levels rise, and then survive their wrath as they begin to get more aggressive by throwing things at you.

The problems? Where to start! For one, the anger gauge is common to all students, not just the one you annoy, which removes a nuanced strategy from the table and makes the game design feel all-the-more shallow. It’s also annoying that once they begin throwing things at you, more than anything your survival will be based on luck. They’ll gladly hit you from behind, where you’re unable to see and there are no in-game systems warning you of something being flung your way. So not only is the experience sorely lacking in anything resembling fun, it’s also shallow, lacks any serious ambition, and is completely pointless.
