Don’t let its pretty simple and somewhat silly looks fool you, this is a consistently challenging platformer that works pretty well
When you play as many games as I do every week, you tend to come to appreciate games that may look a bit unassuming but deliver where it counts. If you’re a fan of challenging platformers with controls that keep things pretty basic with jumping and dashing but generally execute both very precisely then Garlic is definitely worth a look. There are absolutely games in this space that look a bit more pretty and polished, but I wouldn’t say there’s a long list that get the controls quite this right, and I very much appreciate that effort. When you die, which will likely happen more than you’d wish to think about, you’ll jump right back into the action (which is great) but what’s great is it is rare for you to place the blame on anyone but yourself. Yes, there are absolutely some nasty scenarios you’ll need to conquer that will require you to have fine-tuned skills for wall jumping and keeping in control as you slide down them, but it doesn’t take long for the mechanics to feel pretty well second nature and outright reliable. If you’re a challenge hound and are looking for some bang for your buck this is a solid option.
