Despite the grandiose choice of words in the title, this by no means feels like a grand experience
While I can’t say that I’m much of a gambler, that doesn’t mean that I haven’t come to appreciate well-made titles involving a variety of table games and even slot machines in a pinch. Certainly more modern Switch releases like the always-amusing Poker Night at the Inventory and the roguelike stunner Balatro, among others, come to mind since they bring something different to the table. That said, I still fondly remember the pretty terrific Vegas Stakes back on the SNES that put some thought and heart into the game, not just working as a good simulator of a variety of games, but giving you more of a sense of purpose in playing them as well.Unfortunately, despite its name implying otherwise, Grand Vegas Casino falls quite flat in doing pretty well anything more than merely emulating a small number of games in the most bare bones manner possible. In it you can float between playing Roulette, Blackjack, Poker, and a few differently-themed slot machines, so it isn’t a one-trick pony like a few other competitors out there who offer no variety at all. That said, I’d confidently say that even relatively inexpensive or even free gambling games you can play on your phone have more flair and excitement to offer than this does. The gameplay is sterile and devoid of anything more than what feels like the bare minimum when it comes to emulating these games. The 3 varieties of slot machine just essentially change out the very basic clip art used to differentiate their themes, but that’s about it. Sadly, the other table games included are all cut from the same cloth, and while that helps them to be visually consistent, there’s again nothing about them that helps them feel more immersive or interesting. That just leaves you with the ability to play some version of any of these games at will, but without any compelling reason to want to return with any regularity.
