A mix of gravity complications, some shooting, and a bit of frustration initially make way for better play as you go
I don’t doubt that it’s a challenge when you’re making games that are intended to be more on the difficult side and how to get people rolling with them. Even challenge hounds can get discouraged if there’s a bit too much stick and not enough carrot to keep you going early on, and there are numerous games that have fallen into that trap, possibly scaring people away from a game they may like once they’ve got a better handle on things. Gravity Oddity, for me, falls into this difficult space, throwing quite a number of challenges at you (sometimes including simply knowing where to go and what to do, unfortunately) and not initially feeling like you’ve got it under control. Between the gravity, your jetpack, shooting, and then trying to wrap your head around your mods and what you should be doing it’s a lot right away. Now, once you get used to it all and things get rolling there’s some challenging fun to be had since it simply has a flavor all its own, but it’s absolutely an experience that won’t be for everyone.
