Reviews:
  • While hardly revolutionary, the laid back attitude and general pacing of this platformer are very approachable

The Switch obviously is no stranger to platformers, but not too many are quite as easygoing as Here Comes Niko! In general, the goal in each new area is to simply help out people you run into, and then explore every nook and cranny in order to collect everything you can grab. Its 2D characters in a 3D environment look and feel works fine on a general level, but it can definitely make trickier jumps a challenge to land as your sense of depth isn’t always great, making you seek out just the right camera angle to help. That’s where the lack of urgency or perils helps out greatly since making a mistake is never penalized much, aside from perhaps a loss of time, and in general the platforms you’re jumping between tend to be on the generously large size. While it may not be exciting or challenging enough for a veteran 3D platforming fan, less experienced gamers or people who are just looking to have some low-pressure fun may find it to be a great match.
