This first-person runner has a distinctive look and feel but the results are mixed
One pretty common thread in indie titles has been a willingness to take some risks to defy typical expectations. Hirilun absolutely goes that direction when it comes to the visuals, opting for more of an almost wireframe-esque look to go with its first-person runner action. The problem is that while I applaud the fact that it helps the game stand out visually, its minimalist look, high-contrast colors, and quick movement (you’ll fall or be launched vertically pretty often) actually began giving me a headache, a problem that persisted when trying again. Now, though I can’t say that almost ever happens to me, it may not be the experience for everyone, so I’ll go over the other details that stood out. One weakness of the wireframe-y look is that with some elements the lines were pretty far apart, and when you get close to some things that can make it harder to make out where you are at times, keeping yourself oriented. But the more major concern is a lack of crispness in the controls. As focused as it is on being quick and doing quite a lot of precision jumping the kink of sluggishness in the controls and your stopping power were a bit of an aggravation. If you’re into a change of pace, this may work for you, but it definitely has some issues that stand in the way.
