The move from normally more supernatural pursuers to an outright home invasion scenario creates a different flavor
While I have played quite a lot of these suspense games that have a focus on trying to avoid being seen or found, hiding somewhere, and then taking a deep breath hoping you aren’t found… in general I’ve found them a bit limited. The fact that many use a supernatural threat of some kind to harass you may contribute to this feeling, if only for the fact that it creates more of a distance from reality and keeps the danger in the moment from sinking in as fully. Changing out ghosts or spirits of some kind for actual people in a home invasion scenario, to me, is smart. Then having you play the part of one of the kids trying their best not to get caught, upped the ante for me as a parent, though obviously feelings may vary depending on life experience. Compared to its average competition I also liked the more objective-driven approach and the fact that the game did a good job of being sure you had all of the essential skills you’d need before things went down in a relatively organic way. Its appeal will likely still be quite niche, but within the space it represents itself well.
