While a step up from the game this variation has spawned from, there’s no mistaking that it has a mobile-esque simplicity that dulls quickly
Low-budget games, especially those that have come over from the mobile space, are always a bit of a challenge to tackle. Some of them do make sense coming to a dedicated gaming console, but many of them don’t for a variety of reasons. In the case of Johnny Trigger: Sniper I’d say it has managed to land pretty squarely in the middle. To its credit the play, though quite simple, controls well and smoothly, with your focus (obviously) being on looking through your scope to pop off shots and take out bad guys. There was at least some effort to add some nuance to scenarios, whether it be with hostages who can look similar, bad guys trying to run away once they’ve been spooked, and some environmental fun as well, which deserves some respect. That said, its degree of difficulty is quite low so I started getting a bit bored pretty quickly. The focus on making each stage pretty quick works well if you’re just trying to get in a few moments, but it makes playing for longer sessions turn into more of a slog, for sure. While I’d say it would make more sense to get it on mobile if you’re feeling interested, at least in this case the Switch version, though simplistic, isn’t necessarily a waste of your time if you don’t mind the simplicity.
