This bare bones arena shooter isn’t too bad, but lacks a clear hook for your sustained interest
I tend to approach games like this (featuring a female main character with a certain look) with a little hesitation, as sometimes they can end up being a bit gross, but thankfully in this case we’re good. Arena shooters on the Switch have been quite a mixed bag in terms of execution but, on the whole, are typically a bit shallow. In this regard Kawaii Slime Arena actually does a slightly better job than most, having just enough variety in the power-ups you’ll have to choose from along the way and the overall crisp and responsive controls as you circle strafe your way to success, dodging lethal slimeballs of various colors and sizes. That said, while it can be fun in bursts periodically it doesn’t take long to feel like you’ve seen the majority of what the experience has to offer even if you may upgrade or unlock something new. However, if you’re down with its general simplicity and are seeking a distraction on a budget it isn’t a terrible choice.
