Passion projects are always pretty fascinating to check out, sometimes with shockingly great results, but other times…
Credit to the very creative person behind KnifeBoy Rebooted, they have a pretty nutty mind, some ambition, and a great sense of enthusiasm for the experience they’ve created. Unfortunately, none of that is really enough to make up for what’s a hot mess of an experience from top to bottom. Weak to practically broken combat, a feeling of jankiness that permeates the experience, and a world that feels chunked together rather than cohesive make it tough to really get into the groove with it. Worse, the longer I played it the more my brain tended to keep looking at its internal watch and remind me that there are tons of great Metroidvanias out there on the eShop that would reward my spending more time on them than this. It absolutely has a unique flavor, just not one I can imagine almost anyone will find palatable.
