If you’re willing to put in the time to get invested in the story, and don’t mind gameplay taking a backseat, this could have some charm
As someone who has a bit of ADHD and can get impatient with games that take too long to get rolling, this was a really tough start for me. By my count it took over 40 minutes before the game asked me to do anything more than advance dialogue, and in my mind this made for a really tough start. Once you’re able to take some initiative things do improve, but really only marginally. The shame is you can see some ambition in the design, the odd world you’ll find yourself in, and the characters, but there’s just not enough “gameplay” and what there is really isn’t all that great so you’re left to lean on the story… which I’d imagine people could go either way with as a whole. Perhaps a year or two into the system’s lifecycle, back when RPGs and more unusual experiences were in much shorter supply, you could choose to overlook the game’s shortcomings, but this far in it’s hard to ignore that in pretty well all areas of interest this is an overall experience that falls short of the bar of even minimum expectations based on the competition.
