Is simply meandering through somewhat barren landscapes really “gameplay”, no matter how serene?
Boy do I struggle with games that are essentially “walking simulators” of sorts. Slowly moving through an environment while waiting for something, or even anything at all, to happen can be excruciating. Even within that subgenre though, Lost Dream Darkness manages to pretty handily disappoint. What are you doing? Is there a point? Will you ever see another living thing in areas that would be considered forests? Am I just supposed to keep walking indefinitely? The thing is, there are games out there like Spirit of the North that have a similar general feel, so there’s a way to give a game set in nature like this a point and a focus, there’s just nothing of the sort here, making it a real waste of money and (worse) time.
