An overly simple title where you arrange foods inside lunch boxes that runs out of steam quickly
With certain games that have obviously come over from the mobile space, I get pretty fascinated wondering where their inspiration came from. In the case of Lunch Box Ready, I suppose bento boxes likely played a role in things. But while perhaps simple organization tasks living within the limits of what would work on a phone are OK in that space, that doesn’t make them a good match on a dedicated game system like the Switch. The main problem this title faces is that we already have far superior organizationally-satisfying games on the system, mainly Unpacking and A Little to the Left among others. Aside from simply being more varied, interesting, and satisfying, they also have qualities that make them feel distinctive and unique instead of utterly generic and dull. This is one of those games where it’s actually difficult to not simply dismiss it out of hand completely. While it gets off to a reasonable start, some of the snacks you’ll have to put into your boxes feel like they break the entire point of shooting for aesthetics. I suppose I should be thankful that I was at least not being almost constantly bombarded by items which are only available as DLC, but I still really can’t see the value here or why anyone would want to play it on their Switch and not their phone aside from looking to avoid being bombarded with ads.
