Sticks to just being a decent light and casual sim, but is hardly groundbreaking in any way

While it feels like the majority of games on the Switch are designed to be exciting, challenging, or in some way more geared towards high energy, there’s absolutely a sector of titles on the eShop that work in the opposite direction. Whether it’s cozy games, family-friendly fare, or experiences that are just meant to help you veg out a bit, the Switch has a reliable stable of games that will help you relax and unwind a bit. While Mars Survivor isn’t terribly unique, in fact it feels quite similar to some other QubicGames casual titles, it’s at least a slightly different variation on a casual sim formula.

The goal in the game is to simply move around, break down whatever junk you can, and then continue to use the resources you collect to repair or improve the pretty beat up colony you find yourself stationed at. This is all designed quite linearly, with the game continuing to give you guidance for quite a while, helping you to understand what objective you should be working on next and where to find what you’ll need to do so. Much of what you’ll repair initially will be used to help you then take simpler resources and then craft them into more valuable ones, which will then help you repair even more complex machinery, and so on.

In the end, this is a game that isn’t going to win anyone over with its flashy looks or stellar gameplay, it’s simply offering an experience with a relaxed pace and consistent visible rewards for your efforts, even if typically quite modest. There are other titles out there with a similar flavor and vibe, though since functionally they’re roughly the same in how they work and play you’ll just need to go on which setting you prefer and then hope for the best.
