A pretty competent old-school side-scrolling action adventure
When it comes to pretty old-school feel side-scrolling games on a budget, the Switch more than has you covered. While many of the titles may in no way be revolutionary, they can at least provide some decent entertainment and retro vibes for a few hours. If that’s what you’re looking for, Massi actually does a fair job of it, at least as long as your expectations aren’t terribly high.At the start things are a bit more rough, as you’ll be lacking any equipment so you’ll need to be a bit more careful as you battle things out. With only your fists as weapons your range will be the biggest issue, so depending on the enemy you’ll want to get inside, throw a few shots, and then either run away, dodge, or try to block any counter moves. Granted, once you get this down, the experience is a bit of a lather, rinse, and repeat exercise, but that’s where the game’s platforming and looking for some hidden goodies helps to round things out. Then, once you’re able to start using equipment, there are at least some mild improvements and changes in how you’ll fight, just keep in mind that your enemies will also get a bit tougher and use new attack patterns you’ll need to get accustomed to. Rounding out the action side of things, boss battles will tend to be a bit more of a challenge. You’ll certainly need to be on top of what skills you have to try to survive, but perhaps a bit oddly it doesn’t always feel like your combat to that point has been doing a good job at making sure you’re prepared for them, something you normally see. All in all it isn’t a bad game by any means, but it would be fair to point out it also is hardly an extraordinary one either.
