While moody, there’s no question that some of the choices it has made in terms of its controls cripple the ability to easily enjoy the experience
When it comes to games that push for intensity, there are plenty of options out there in multiple genres in the Switch eShop. If you want arcade-style shooters, they’re out there. Rock-solid and satisfying brawlers? There are plenty. Titles that feature intense slashing action and chaos? Take your pick. It’s important when reviewing new entries in the eShop that they aren’t being evaluated in a vacuum. Other great options are at your fingertips, and likely even in your backlog, so settling for merely middling fare shouldn’t be necessary.Middle Evil: The Priest ends up being a sort of survival action game in the end, asking that you try to endure 7 nights in a local church that is being overrun by a variety of unholy forces. The weird thing is that the game’s action feels like it straddles the line somewhere between action and beat-em-up, but then throws in some pretty inconvenient and awkward spellcasting as well to really cripple the experience to top it all off.I suppose that’s appropriate, given you’re a priest, and it is a feature that helps distinguish it from the competition. Nevertheless, there’s no ignoring that trying to go through the motions of choosing the proper letters to get the spell cast in the middle of the action plan stinks. It’s almost as if this was meant to be a typing game, considering the letters you need to choose just feel random, and I’d hope that this isn’t the best control scheme they landed on for pulling them off. I suppose with some time you’ll get better at overcoming the awkwardness of it, but just in general this feels like more of a second draft of an effort, working well enough, but still in need of a fair amount of work to get it to feeling worthy of your attention in an eShop full of comparative bangers.
