Remember Cooking Mama's delightful silliness and mini-game food preparation? My Bakery Empire, sadly, is absolutely not to be confused as its successor. While it may somewhat carry the torch of casual cooking games, it quickly stumbles on repetitive tasks and blatant monetization attempts.

The food prep? Sloppy and brief, a far cry from Cooking Mama's varied and engaging simulations. Skill? Hardly necessary. Instead, the game seems to favor repetition and then periodic hard pushes for you to buy additional DLC packs just to do some proper decorating. While that may fly for free-to-play mobile games, in the case of a paid game on the Switch this is a very bitter pill to be expected to swallow.

Cooking Mama's legacy deserves better. If you crave a joyful culinary romp, you’ll still need to look elsewhere. My Bakery Empire simply serves up too many empty calories rather than anything resembling fun.
