While the operations themselves and, to a degree, the drama are a draw, the interface and controls for management struggle
As a big fan of the Trauma Center games back in the DS era, I’ve been a bit surprised and disappointed that there hasn’t been an equivalent or some kind of port that has come to the Switch. Operate Now certainly has the looks, and to a degree the surgery element that fans of that series may be looking for, but it’s unfortunately the elements outside of those surgery mini games of sorts where things aren’t as refined or engaging. The story is a hit or a miss depending on how you like your medical drama elements, but I at least appreciated the effort. The part where there’s no getting around the problems is in dealing with the hospital management aspects that not only retain some mobile game overhead, but whose controls and interface could really use some work. Simply looking to hire new staff, or having a proper handle on how to effectively move them around and manage them is more of a struggle than it should be, and this is a mix of somewhat incomplete instruction and just some non-intuitive elements in the interface as it tries to guide you. I really wish it had stuck more to its strength, the surgery game elements that do work quite well and are satisfying, but on the whole the other areas of the experience unfortunately hold it back a bit.
