Brings all of the sassy and sexy energy Elvira can muster, but is undercut by less inspired overall design

If you’ve been a long-time fan of Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, you’ll no doubt be aware that back in the day she had her moment for quite some time, and did a great job of capitalizing on it. Outside of commercials, a movie, and more, she also got pulled in to provide the basis for a new Williams pinball table, providing her likeness, style, and some great trademark voice work. Now, Pinball FX fans will be able to enjoy her digitally as well.

Aside from the table featuring some entertaining lines, appropriately pushing her classically suggestive commentary, this was never one of my favorites. I think one issue I had was how much its layout and style reminded me a bit too much of Doctor Dude, another decent enough table, but not an amazing one either. While the comparison is hardly one to one, it’s hard not to notice the similarities, and there’s no doubt that the table’s outlanes feel particularly greedy for gobbling up your ball, which doesn’t help.

One thing that the wizards at Zen Studios did to help make the table more fun in enhanced mode though, is add Elvira in a swimsuit, simmering in a cauldron in the lower-left corner. She doesn’t do all that much most of the time, mostly just showing her irritation with you when you lose a ball, but things do get more fun when it’s party time. Having her get up to start dancing a little while you’re on a roll may not radically change the gameplay, but it is at least a great example of trying to give the fans what they want. There’s no question that this is a solid table on a general level, but being released at the same time as Scared Stiff it does feel like the lesser of the two.
