Not much more to say than it’s a pretty stock and generic platformer overall
One of the challenges with reviewing games is that the ones that are at the extremes, either truly exceptional or utterly forgettable, are pretty easy to write about. They either get everything right and are impressive, or make you regret your time spent with them enough to have some venom to dole out. The real challenge? Reviewing games that are merely mediocre, but not criminally so. Ones just good enough that you could imagine someone could enjoy them in some way, but either lacking enough in ambition or execution to inevitably get lost in the pile of better options in the eShop. Red Pippy, as you may have guessed, is one such game. This is a simple budget platformer, through and through, with you controlling a small bird with a modest set of skills that you’ll slowly add to. Initially just jumping and floating your way around traps and some enemies, you’ll also get to work with some mechanisms like springs and do a little box pushing as well, but there’s nothing here you haven’t seen before.Granted, you could reason that for a budget price, especially if it’s on sale, it may not be a bad way to spend a few hours, but understand that there are plenty of similarly-bland budget platformers out there to keep it company. At some point, not even a budget price can shield games that lack ambition from scrutiny, as there are simpler and cheaper platformers out there that dare to dream a little bit, rather than feeling like they were made on a virtual assembly line, switching out the graphics and some details to just make more of the same. This isn’t a bad game per se, it’s just completely forgettable.
