Feeling like it was designed to take some inspiration from the challenge of Dark Souls, and the format and look of Fallout, this feels pretty different
As we are hopefully approaching something more akin to the Switch’s twilight years, it’s impressive to still see more ambitious games able to make the journey to the system. However, in the case of Remnant, there’s no doubt that there are signs that there are more and more visual sacrifices needing to be made to make it work. While I’ve seen other people characterize it in a variety of ways, for me Remnant feels like it takes a page from the difficulty of a Souls game, but marries that with a world, weaponry, and a general vibe more akin to the Fallout series. For the most part that suits me fine, and though visually the game can certainly get quite muddy, I’ll credit the action for generally remaining compelling and the controls pretty responsive. There are times where you’ll absolutely feel a bit blindsided by the difficulty curve, but patience and the right equipment can make all the difference. It would likely look and play a bit better on other systems, but there really just aren’t many games that feel remotely like this on the system, so it’s a welcome treat to help break away from the first-person shooters you’d normally see with this sort of setup.
