Undoubtedly one of the more unusual games I’ve played running this site, it may have some appeal for the right crowd, but it definitely will take patience to see everything it has to offer
Possibly one of the most vital lessons to be learned when playing and reviewing indie games is that more often than not these titles are geared to attract a very specific crowd, and taking that into fair consideration is vital to trying to be fair in evaluating them. In particular, when you encounter a really oddball effort like this one, that’s a vital consideration to take into account, both as the reviewer and the person trying to find a new experience. All that said, even trying to keep an open mind and experience games in the context they’re intended in, that doesn’t mean you can’t still be critical on some fundamentals.Let’s just get it out of the way, this is an odd game where without any real context you’ll just be thrown into the mix, finding yourself on a shore in front of an island resort. Trying to get your bearings, if you try to strike up a conversation with the people standing around, you’ll find that you’re apparently meant to be catering to their needs, and they aren’t exactly polite about it. So your best bet will be to dutifully work on their demands the best that you can, while also trying to figure out what’s going on. Very quickly though, you’ll also learn that you’re stuck in a time loop, and once you’ve got a handle on everyone’s wants and needs you’ll start to be more efficient with your time, get some key upgrades that will make your tasks easier, and get the opportunity to bump into the fact that (aside from being in a time loop), something isn’t quite right. At some point the game then transitions into a different gear, changing up the narrative and getting even more odd if that’s possible. Of course, this upends your expectations and what you thought you were meant to be doing, and that adds to the title’s overall intrigue. My issue though is the time it takes for this element to reveal itself, after honestly getting pretty burned out with the hotel worker trying to please unreasonable guests simulator pretty quickly. I understand that there are people who’ll go along for a long ride, even when things get to be a little too tedious or slow, with the faith that things will turn around. I’m not one of those people, and because of that this sort of title really rubs me the wrong way. If you’re down for something odd that seems to be moving in one direction, only to make a hard turn and go in another before resolving itself, perhaps this will be a match. I just have a hard time recommending it, no matter how stylish and very purposely odd it may be.
