Melding together more classic adventure elements with some horror, Saint Kotar is different, but flawed
Despite what shortcomings it has, I’ll at least acknowledge that Saint Kotar really tries its best to deliver a compelling adventure, backed by a story with a fair amount of creep and some unusual themes. Rather than settling for surface-level jump scares and superficialities it really digs in to trying to set up a long game, making for deeper and more unnerving chills when they do arrive. The problem, unfortunately, is that many aspects of the game for you to unlock and enjoy the overall experience are pretty clunky getting to the payoffs. The writing is uneven, the voice acting can be even moreso, and just the mechanics of the adventure game style of play, though workable, are still quite clumsy. If you’re willing to be patient this is at least a far better effort than many “walking sim horror titles” out there on the eShop, but there are absolutely better overall options to be found than this.
