With its hodge podge art style, and a lack of something compelling you to play, this Gardenia wilts quickly
Always trying to keep an open mind about games, I took the plunge into The Kingdom of Gardenia hoping that there would be something in it that would grab my interest despite its very cobbled together overall look. I’m really not sure what to think of it beyond it almost looking like various clipart elements from a variety of sources were put into the same game in order to cut corners. I could respect that, to a point, but it doesn’t inspire confidence. What really sank the experience for me is simply that there’s nothing jumping out at you quickly enough to help you understand why you’ll want to keep playing. You obviously have some elements in your history that will play out, and there’s obviously something a bit weird with the job you’re called to do, but it just isn’t enough to justify meandering around, weirdly swatting at bats, and just generally feeling unimpressed with just about every element of the game. There are simply too many games out there, of all types, that are too compelling to be spending time on this instead.
