While perhaps not as well-known as its peers, this fighter has technique and variety that will please genre fans
While I’d heard of The Rumble Fish before when glancing around at fighters over time I’d never personally had the pleasure to check it out. At first glance I’ll admit that the game’s distinctive look (pixel-art characters on quasi-3D backgrounds) threw me off, but once I got to spend some time playing it any doubts simply washed away. There’s no question this is a pretty technique-based fighter, where you’re managing both an offensive and defensive gauge and that can lead to pretty exciting tide-turning battles at times. The variety in styles across the roster is also pretty sweet, with pretty well each character having its own distinct style and moves, yet on a general level the execution of their moves feels pretty natural and flowing, making it relatively easy to pick up and get started with for newcomers. While there’s definitely a learning curve to fully-utilizing every ability at your disposal (true of the genre in general), it’s hard not to walk away impressed by this new challenger in the Switch eShop.
