Trippy visuals mixed with some brutally-tough action make strange bedfellows
Hoo boy, games that deal with these sorts of topics are sensitive for me since I’ve had close family members struggle mightily and hospitalized with this sort of ideation. Typically, I’ve been less than enthused with too many titles using as some sort of story or plot device and seeing it through a very trite or even sometimes even ignorant lens. To this title’s credit I wouldn’t say it does that, so that’s a plus, but I’m not entirely sure what the connection between someone struggling and the very trippy yet sometimes brutal “platforming” that follows. I suppose there’s symbolism and meaning to be found if you’re looking for it but it also feels a bit like an excuse just to be really bizarre with the game’s art style and general look. If you’re looking for a challenge, this may satisfy (as it aggravates), but if you’re looking for some meaning I’m not so sure you’ll find what you’re looking for.
