  • While pure simulation fans who are into trains should be happy, the play is definitely limited in excitement and real variety

Strictly sim titles are always among the toughest for me to evaluate fairly, as I don’t tend to get excited about much of the mundane steps it takes in the real world to accomplish things. That said, I know that there’s absolutely an audience out there who relishes the experience of doing something that varies from their everyday life, and for many I’m sure the thought of commanding a train down the rails at least has some appeal. To the game’s credit, while the control scheme isn’t always the most inviting, the instructions and on-screen context cues do tend to help you greatly in getting off to a good start. From there on it ends up being a matter of whether you’re really all about controlling the switches to get your train hooked up and going on a bit of an adventure on the rails, taking the controls when needed and enjoying the sights along the way. Among the “transportation sims” I’ve played on the Switch, I’d at least say this is the most polished, it mostly boils down to whether the experience is a match for you.
