A reasonable mix of story beats and various puzzles strung together by pretty horribly compressed video
Having played quite a number of casual puzzle-driven collections like this on tablets or even earlier PCs over the years it’s a pretty comfortable subgenre niche that can be satisfying and relaxing. That said, since there are quite a lot of them on the Switch this point it feels like there’s need to establish a bar for expectations for how they look and feel when compared to one another. In terms of the puzzles themselves, both their variety and how well they’re implemented, Ghost Hunter works pretty well. In fact, some of their variations on what would normally be hidden objects like trying to find items instead to fill in blanks in pictures, effectively reversing the normal model, are pretty novel. The trick can be in the implementation though as sometimes I actually had a terrible time picking out the blank areas in images since their coloring too closely matched the background. A small detail perhaps, but given the overall lack of complexity in the subgenre things like that matter. Another issue I had was with the pretty obvious compression on the transitional videos. I understand that these may be from a number of years ago, when file sizes or screen resolutions may not have worked with higher-quality output well but compared to some more polished competition these elements slowly brought the general satisfaction level with the experience down. If you’re hooked on these games it’ll work out fine, but if you’re just a tourist I’d go with something a little more polished.
