While its opening shows some promise, it then dives into mostly being a boredom-inducing walking simulator where you’ll try to understand what you’re supposed to do in order to get things moving
There are times when you can clearly see parallels between the world of movies and video games. Given that both are forms of entertainment that have a need to try to draw you in so you’ll pay to see them, a suggestive title and a promise of something untoward is always a good place to start. In this case, then throwing in a little demonic voice work looks to further seal the deal, working to suck you in further. But then, not so unlike when you’ve shown up to see a movie based on a trailer that makes it seem like a real winner but then is instead a dull slog, you run into another game that’s a walking simulator first and foremost, and it all kind of falls apart. Perhaps I’ve just endured more of this than most, but it’s hard not to consider this style of play the scourge of indie horror games, relying on jump scares or some late-breaking twist to try to redeem a lot of plodding around and wondering what you’ll need to do to just get something interesting to happen. While this does manage to throw in some mildly erotic elements, and a whole lot of brooding looks on the part of multiple characters, I struggled to simply buy into the experience. Even though there are points where you’ll be free to choose from multiple dialogue options, the game’s course feels locked in and set, making your choices mostly feel superficial. I suppose the revelations of what has happened, and who is responsible, could be of interest, but I’m not convinced that playing a game that has you walking around and working through simple puzzles or tasks to advance the story further enhances the narrative. There may be an audience for this pretty short ride, but set your expectations to mild if you don’t want to risk disappointment.
