This top-down roguelike slasher offers a challenge with 3 selectable characters, a fair amount of variety, and truly unique bosses

A challenging mix of strategy, action, and sometimes quite a bit of luck makes for something distinctive

Everhood 2

Taking the formula of the original and essentially doubling down on it, it’s a creative rhythm RPG, but an acquired taste to be sure

Momodora: Moonlit Farewell

In terms of play, it is a solid Metroidvania experience, but it’s also a bit less distinctive than many of its peers on the system

Runny Bunny

While on its face it looks simple and ordinary, if you let it warm up it turns out to have a surprising (but fair) edge to it

Oppidum

While very grind-driven and it has some quirks, this survival adventure could still appeal to people looking for a more subdued survival experience

GIGASWORD

A metroidvania that favors puzzle-solving over action, but that don’t assume that makes it less difficult

Halloween 1985

Runs with some great Halloween vibes, plays well, and has some great classic arcade callouts, but has next to no ramp up

A decent take on the Pang / Buster Bros formula, but not a particularly inspired one either

HYKE:Northern Light(s)

While a visual treat, and possessing some characters that make for varied and amusing combat, the overall experience is still somewhat middling

Platypus Reclayed

Delivering a pretty classic shooting experience with the gimmick of everything being formed in clay helps make this novel

ZOE Begone!

With an undeniably unique flow, controls, and challenges, this is a wild and creative shooter… but it also has some rough edges

EVERYBODY'S GOLF HOT SHOTS

While it’s great to see the popular series make its way to Switch, overall it has its ups and downs

Bad Cheese

Absolutely a weird experience, with the classic animation look helping to prop up gameplay that can be a bit hit or miss overall

Super World War

While perhaps it may not have the polish of Wargroove or the Advance Wars titles, Super World War’s sense of humor gives it legs if you’re down to be entertained while making your tactical plans

Herdling

While it makes for a beautiful and delightfully calm adventure, there isn’t quite enough gameplay present to make it more broadly appealing

Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution

While it’s nice to see Shantae “return” to the Switch, this resurrected title that was originally intended for handhelds is understandably less exciting

Instants

While there are better options out there, this cozy puzzler has a creative component on top of the puzzling which adds value

SYNESTHESIA

Featuring a collection of students who are all gifted in some way, a sinister plot, and some level of choice, it has some appeal

Preserve

While perhaps not breaking new ground for a nature-based strategy/sim title, it works well and is pleasant

Submarine Survivor

Does a better job than most among Vampire Survivors-alikes, but doesn’t clearly move the subgenre forward

Cooking Companions

A weird and undoubtedly dark ride

Skies Above

A smart and somewhat challenging mix of precision jumping and some strategy, with an evolved arcade style

Star Overdrive

A stylish hoverboard-riding adventure with some promise, but that also struggles in key areas

Which Way Up: Galaxy Games

Its focus on a variety of gravity-based mini games makes it novel, but it may not make for balanced competition

Hyper Mirror Run

The idea of a simple head-to-head platforming challenge is at least novel, but perhaps a little niche with its appeal

Sorry We're Closed

Undeniably colorful, weird, and wild… but perhaps a bit too up and down for its own good

O.W.L Projekt 2

A sequel to the less elaborate Monument Valley is again well-made, but not terribly inspired either

An unusual Metroidvania that has a very distinct look and feel, but not all for the better

Beef Cat Ultra

While visually unassuming, and generally pretty basic in concept, the consistent challenges that await still have some pull

Basureroes: Invasion

While it may look simple on the surface, switching between characters reveals some careful design that’s appreciated

BROK: The Brawl Bar

Going with more objective-based bite-sized segments, The Brawl Bar has a novel feel for a beat-em-up but struggles to be satisfying

Doki Monsters : Quest

While it has some modern convenience features, and its monster designs are original, this feels more like a clone than some of its peers

Vlad Circus: Curse of Asmodeus

Dark, odd, and certainly possessing a fair amount of creepy vibes, this pretty grim adventure is a decent enough follow-up to its predecessor

Crossout Legends

While possessing quite a number of annoying elements of most free-to-play games, when you do get down to playing it can be fun

Cats Away

An odd take on sea-faring exploration and combat, complete with a lot of cats, and a fair amount of grinding

Hogtie

Aside from some charm from its Western theming, there’s enough of a variation on the norm here to be of mild interest

How 2 Escape: Lost Submarine

While there’s a definite risk you and your partner will get stuck, and the in-game hint system is pretty well worthless, it’s a distinctive challenge

TRON: Catalyst

As a life-long fan of TRON, and who loves opportunities to spend time on the Grid, I’ll admit that I wish Catalyst were a little stronger, but it works for what it is

The JerryMaya Detective Agency

A very pleasant and approachable adventure that would be well-suited to less experienced gamers and offers an option of co-op play to boot
